If it's very painful to criticize your friends, you're safe in doing it. But if you take the slightest pleasure in it, that's the time to hold your tongue. ~Alice

Excellent words to live by!!! So true!
Well, I haven't actually blogged in a while and I keep getting emails asking if I died. Nope. Not yet! Check back with me in about a year, though. Apparently, I like to defeat the odds.
Speaking of which, last week, I had my first tick. I'm not sure where I got it, although when I went tanning one day, my back started to itch and it felt like something was on me, but I didn't figured it was my imagination.
A little over a week later, I was still trying to itch that darn spot on my back! I am no contortionist, but I finally reached it and when I did, I felt something funny. I strained to see in the mirror and all I could see was something grey and a red ring around it. I yelled for my daughter to look at it and she confirmed that it was in fact a tick. She ran far away from me, so I called my husband to come to my rescue.
Now, Justin pulls ticks off of himself and dogs all the time. He never seems bothered by them, but I could tell by the look on his face that he was grossed out. He seemed worried and was asking, "What should I do? What about the head?" I didn't care, I just wanted it off! I told him to just get rid of it. He pulled...hard. That little bugger did not want to budge! It hurt too! Finally it came off and Justin looked like he was going to be sick.
I asked if he got it all and he said he was pretty sure he did because it pulled off quite a bit of skin with it! Ugh!
Ick! I was just glad it was off.
Later that day, I began to feel sick. My shoulder, arm and neck started to get extremely sore. It got worse throughout the day. I was extremely concerned about the stiffness and pain in my neck. Two years ago, I had a tumor that was in my saliva gland and lymph node, similar to what Adam
Yauch from the
Beastie Boys has. Mine was completely removed, but I was told that it could possibly come back.
The next day, my neck felt better, but I felt like I was getting the flu and was getting VERY dizzy and nauseous. I just felt icky.
A few days later, my back was still itching. Justin looked at it and there was a large ring around it that got larger throughout the next couple days. Eventually, it began to look just like a bulls-eye. I went in to get it checked, thinking that they would laugh at me that I was being paranoid and it's just my
OCD getting the best of me...they never did say that.
I am now taking
Doxycycline to treat Lyme disease. Yep, Lyme disease. One tick in my entire life. Lyme disease! What are the odds?! Less than 1%! 1%!
The good news is that I caught it early. I still need to go in to see a specialist now and figure more out, but I'm sure things will be just fine. I've had a few rough spells, but if that's all I get, I will consider myself lucky!
My husband decided to surprise me with a trip to Duluth for our anniversary! It's actually not until the end of next month, but he'll be combining hopefully! At first, I didn't think we were going to make it. Once we started out in the car, I became extremely sick. I had to stop at my mom's house because I was so violently ill! They all kept saying that we should go home so that I could rest. Rest is NOT in my vocabulary! I was not going to let some tiny little parasite of a tick ruin my getaway!
We headed out again and had a pretty nice weekend. It rained a little, but we didn't have to worry about anything and hung out at our hotel down in Canal Park, along the shores of Lake Superior. We took Brady to the train museum and rode on a train up the shore. It was SO relaxing! I thought about getting a
therapeutic massage at our hotel, but we were anxious to get home to Presley. She's getting to the age where she's too cool to hang out with us, I think. She decided she wanted to stay with Grandma. Grandma ended up having to take a day off from work, so they had a girl's day.
It's good to be home, but I am definitely planning my next getaway, soon!! I am considering
Las Vegas. With my need to beat the odds, it could turn out to be a very good trip. Until then, I will be up at the C-store buying my lottery tickets!
